Dogsled in Montana near Yellowstone with Absaroka Dogsled Treks at Chico Hot Springs

SF World Travel Examiner by Kristi Gutierrez

The winter season beckons a different kind of experience when you travel that isn’t offered at any other time of the year. If you find yourself near West Yellowstone and you grow bored of bison in the snow, there are plenty of options for playing in powder. In between boarding at Bridger and soaking at Chico, mush your own sled or just bundle up for the ride. Cold weather lovers will gratify their need for adventure by dog sledding through the Gallatin National Forest in Montana... more

Love at First Site

From Trip Advisor

Dogsledding with 2 Huskies leading We just spent 6 nights at Chico for our honeymoon and would go back next week if we could. We stayed in one of the cabins (708) on the hill overlooking the property which had a spectacular view of Paradise Valley. It was very clean and spacious with a newly appointed bathroom with jacuzzi tub/shower etc. Chico is a laid back place, not what I would call a 'luxury' resort by any means. But the gourmet restaurant was excellent! And the food at the poolside cafe (pizza, salads, burgers) was good for grill food...

We also did the dogsledding which was awesome! (Absoroka Dogsled treks ) Clarke our guide was great and the whole experience of learning to drive your own dog sled in just a few hours was amazing. Its only a short drive (30 minutes) to Yellowstone from Chico so we spent several days exploring there and seeing wildlife...more

Enjoying a day out Dogsledding in MontanaTravel Lady Magazine by Valerie Summers

My adventure began in Paradise Valley at Chico Hot Springs Resort, a favorite with locals as well as visitors. My group of five women met up with Mark Nardin, a man with an interesting past and a positive outlook, who owns and operates Absaroka Dogsled Treks. We piled into a small bus, people in the front, Alaskan huskies in back, and drove for an hour into the Gallatin National Forest on a beautiful, sunny winter day...more

View from the DogsledGreat western style featuring outdoor hot spring pools...The highlight of our visit was a half day dog sled excursion into the Gallatin National Forest. It was a spectacular trip -- just the four of us and our guide and two teams of sled dogs. Weekdays during February are less crowded for the tours and fewer people are using the national forest. We each had turns driving the sleds. Our teenagers loved it. These amazing dogs are hardworking athletes! You can book the excursion through the hotel. The tour leaves from their office right on the Chico Hot Springs property.

Making Connections in Montana

By Cathy Orr

It takes but one trip West to reap a tradition—and what better states in which to start than Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado? Montana’s always been a magnet for explorers, and I’m drawn into it on a regular basis, this time heading west from Billings, on Interstate 90, for a bit of 21st-century exploration along one of many of Montana’s historic corridors of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail...more
